How to travel to Stockholm – Karolinska Institutet

FLIGHTS

Stockholm is well-connected in several ways. International visitors can fly to Arlanda Airport (37 km to Karolinska Institutet) or Skavsta Airport (100 km).

BY BUS 

As you exit the Stockholm Arlanda airport terminal using the revolving doors, you will find buses “Flygbussarna” going to Stockholm City.

The following bus lines will take you to the Karolinska Institutet and Karolina Tower (conference hotel) or downtown Stockholm, which located near the city center (with multiple stops along the way):

Arlanda – Liljeholmen (both the stop ”Karolinska Sjukhuset Eugeniavägen” and Torsplan” are within walking distance to Karolina Tower and Karolinska Institutet.

Arlanda – Stockholm C (Cityterminalen) will take you to the city

The bus fare is SEK 119 per person and it takes approximately 30 min from Arlanda to Karolinska (may be longer during rush hours). Buy bus tickets online Flygbussarna or at the airport machines (located in baggage claim and arrival area). The tickets are flexible (no need to pre-book bus) but should be used within 3 months.

BY TRAIN

You can choose between high-speed trains, long-distance trains and commuter trains when you travel by train to and from Stockholm Arlanda airport.

High speed train

The Arlanda Express runs non-stop between Stockholm Arlanda airport and Stockholm Central Station and in 18 minutes. You buy your tickets at the airport’s information desks or in the Arlanda Express self-service machines located next to the escalators/lifts leading down. There are escalators/lifts down to the train from all terminals. .

Commuter trains

SL’s commuter trains to Stockholm and Uppsala depart from Arlanda Central Station in SkyCity, the area between the terminals 4 and 5. Total travel time between Stockholm Arlanda and Stockholm Central Station is 38 minutes.

You can purchase tickets at the normal SL and UL sales points and at Arlanda Central station.

Long-distance trains

Every day you can choose among 60 long-distance trains to and from Arlanda Central station in SkyCity eather with SJ or Tågkompaniet. You can buy train tickets on Tågkompaniet’s website or at SJ sales points.

Station access fee
Train passengers who get on and off at Arlanda Central station pay an access fee of 120 SEK. If the fee is not included in your fare you can pay at the station counter in SkyCity.

BY TAXI

You will find taxis outside the Stockholm Arlanda airport terminal and they will take you directly to your hotel. The price for a taxi ride to hotels in the downtown Stockholm is SEK 530-600 depending on the taxi company. We advise you to chose a company with fixed price (e.g. Taxi Kurir SEK 535 or Taxi Stockholm SEK 575). Most credit card types are accepted.
